You must dress appropriately for lab: closed toe shoes long hair tied back no dangling jewelry or clothing
Safety goggles should be worn any time you are: working with heat, chemicals, or glass instructed to by your teacher
When you first enter the lab you should check the board for directions before doing anything else.
Do NOT touch lab equipment until you are told to by the teacher!
Always stay in your lab area. Do not wander into other groups.
No unsafe behavior in the lab! This includes: playing around running poking at gas jets or plugs
Read labels carefully to make sure you have the right chemical!
Everything you could need to know about a chemical in the lab is located in the MSDS binder.
Student should not enter the storeroom unless told to by the teacher.
Never perform unauthorized experiments in the lab.
When testing the smell of a chemical, you should fan the smell towards you. *** NEVER inhale directly!
Electrical equipment should not be used if it: is near water is smoking or sparking is making strange noises
If something might be hot, you should check without touching it, or use an oven mitt or tongs.
If glass or other lab materials break, notify the teacher immediately. DO NOT try to clean it up yourself!
If an accident occurs in the lab, notify the teacher immediately!
When heating materials in a test tube you should always: aim the opening away from people keep it moving gently to heat it evenly.
If you are unsure about what to do in the lab, you should ASK the teacher!
Follow teacher instructions on how to dispose of leftover chemicals. Do not throw in the trash or sink unless told to!
NEVER put anything in your mouth during lab. This includes: eating or drinking chewing on pen/pencil biting nails
You are responsible for returning your lab area to how it was when you started.
