GEOMETRY

Point– A location in a plane or in space.

2. LINE– A set of points that moves continuously in opposite directions. A straight path of points. . A Symbol AB .B

. A . B 3. Line Segment– a part of a line having two endpoints. Symbol

4. Ray– A part of a line that has one endpoint and extends endlessly in one direction. . A Symbol AB . B

5. Endpoint– a point at the end of a segment or a ray.

6. Plane– a flat surface extending endlessly in all directions. .B

7. Congruent—Same size, same shape. B A C D F Symbol ABC = DEF

8. Vertex– A point where two or more sides of a geometric figure meet.

9. Vertical– lines moving in an up and down position. Symbol AB is a vertical line. . B

10. Horizontal– lines moving in a left to right position. Symbol AB is a Horizontal line. A B . .

11. Straight – The shortest distance between two points. . .

12. Intersecting lines– lines that have exactly one point in common. . D Symbol AB intersects CD at X. . A . X .B . C

Parallel Lines – Lines in the same plane that never intersect. . A . B . X .Y Symbol AB XY

16. Perpendicular Lines– two lines that intersect to form right angles. Symbol: . X .A .B AB XY . Y
