Simpson Psych Presentations (Amanda) also discussed how stereotypes affect self-stigma in African-American women. "When mainstream society is telling you, you are the least beautiful, worthy, and that your heritage amounts to nothing. You don't want to give them anything more to make you feel weak and little. So sometimes black women who NEED help don't seek it because we have been trained that pride is the only posture that exudes the image of strength we deserve to be identified by."
