Development of Urban Cities

At the bottom left hand side create your legend

Starting your Hamlet Draw a river across your paper connecting east to west; the river should be about 2 inches wide; draw a simple wooden bridge crossing the river; draw 2 roads one running north to south and crossing the river at the bridge and one running from east to west.  Neither road need be a straight line.

Starting your Hamlet Draw 10 houses; 1 church; 1 store; 1 pub; At least 50 Trees!!

Round 1: 1750 Add 5 houses

Round 2: 1760 Fence off an area 3x3 inches to be reserved as commons Add 5 houses Add 1 nice house

Taking My City into the 20th Century Our City Growth Activity took us from a rural village to a 19th century industrialized city. However, the invention of the automobile further impacted the layout of cities. To incorporate these changes, complete your City Design by adding these features, in the assigned order (which will accurately represent chronological growth)

Round 1 Add 20 houses outside your city In that area Add 2 schools 2 churches 1 pub Add roads as necessary Remove 10 houses from inside your city

Round 2 Add 5 skyscrapers in your city Add 1 hotel 2 nice homes You may remove houses/tenements if needed, but be sure to redraw them in new locations. Add 1 hotel 2 nice homes

Round 3 Add a wide road that stretches from one side of your paper to the other. Connect it to your current road system with off- and on-ramps. You may remove houses/tenements if needed, but be sure to redraw them in new locations. Remove 10 houses from within your city and add 10 houses outside of your city

Round 5 Add 1 tenement 1 hotel 2 pubs
