How students learn engineering: You tell me. Marilla Svinicki

Using the learning principles identified in earlier sessions, you will analyze engineering education variables that might impact how those principles are similar or different for engineering students. Using the individual difference principles identified in earlier sessions, you will analyze how those individual difference variables might be expressed in engineering students.

Divide into 7 approximately equal groups. For the next 15 minutes discuss what there is about that variable that might influence student learning positively or negatively : Engineering content The concepts The thinking processes Engineering students 3. Prior knowledge 4. Motivation/values 5. Self-regulation skills Developmental level Life circumstances

What is there about the content in engineering that might influence the learning experience of students? Qualities of the content Qualities of the cognitive processes needed

What is there about engineering students that might influence their learning experiences? Prior knowledge Affective states Self-regulations strategies Developmental level Life circumstances
