Why Study Chemistry? Develop a well-rounded understanding of chemistry concepts that will benefit students who take more chemistry courses, as well as help them make informed decisions on many matters that arise as citizens.

What’s in This Year’s Course? Students will study: Properties of Matter States of matter, Atomic/molecular structure of matter Changes in Matter Making and breaking of bonds during chemical reactions Forms of Energy Electron movement and nuclear changes Energy Transfer and Conservation

About My Teaching Style Teacher and student-led discussions prompted by questioning Labs and lab write ups Power Point Chapter notes with fill in the blank notes Demonstrations Group Activities

Suggested Supply List 3 ring binder or folder Writing utensil Colored pencils Scientific Calculator Donation of Kleenex

How Will Grades be Determined? Tests, Quizzes are 60% of grade, Labs, stamp sheet and homework make up 40% of the grade

Grading Assessments Daily Homework **stamp sheet (50-75 points) per chapter Daily work goes on a stamp sheet but roughly once a week I will collect daily work Quizzes (a couple per unit, 15-50 points) Chapter Test (roughly every 2 weeks, 50-100 points) Labs (20-25 pts) Classwork and other activities vary in points.
