What you can expect from me I will always bring excitement and passion for learning to the classroom. I will always try to remain upbeat and positive. I will learn students’ names within a reasonable time; the goal is one week. I will be readily available to help students and will do so positively. I will be fair. I will regularly maintain my teacher website. (i.e. Blackboard, once applicable) I will maintain a safe and accepting learning environment for all students. Respect from me simply because of who you are.

What I expect from you & what you should expect from your classmates Students are expected to RESPECT other students, the teacher, themselves, and the learning environment. (Distractive behavior, unkind words (even said in jest), and inappropriate actions will not be tolerated in this classroom.) Students are expected to do their best while taking pride in the task at hand. Students are expected to work diligently during all kinds of class work. Students are expected to bring books, computers, planners, pens, & paper to class every day, along with any extra supplies Mrs. Martin asked for the previous day. (i.e. highlighter, colored pencils, etc, These will not be expected without prior warning.) Students are expected to enter class wanting to learn something every day; this means that students are required to participate in class through asking questions and making quality and pertinent comments.

Respect: Simply because you are is enough of a reason to be treated with a baseline of respect. I will not tolerate disrespect directed at myself, other students, the resources, or the environment. This classroom is a safe space for people to foster a sense of comfort when learning. Disrespect or intolerance based on antiquated ideas of what is “right” and “ wrong” won’t be tolerated. You will not shame or embarrass people based on race, religion, education, gender, gender identity and expression, ability, age, socioeconomic status, orientation, world view, or any other category of difference you come up with.

Consequences A student will receive a warning if his or her behavior disrupts learning, with the possibility of being sent in the hall. If the behavior continues, a parental contact will be made. An extra warning will result in a meeting with the teacher and student together with the possibility of a written referral. Further misbehavior will result in a formal conference. Depending on the severity of the issue, these steps can be disregarded and you can be sent to the office immediately.

Rules and Procedures: We need to be efficient: these classes are too big for disorder and disarray. Bring your supplies, always. Folder, paper, a pen, book Be near your seat, by the time the bell rings. When I start talking, you stop. If your classmates are speaking, you are not. Public speaking is difficult for a majority of the population, do not make your peers uncomfortable by laughing and carrying on while they are trying to participate. It’s rude.

Continued… Don’t. Lie. To. Me. If you forget to do something or do not remember how to complete something, you need to come to me and own that. I will not hold it against you because people make mistakes. I will be honest with you, afford me the same courtesy. Hall passes: see syllabus, subject to change. Do not abuse pass privileges. They can be revoked. Food and drink: No. Regular water is fine and food is fine if you have a medical condition but otherwise, just no. THROW YOUR GARBAGE IN THE TRASH!! And put recycle in the correct bin. Don’t touch the stuff on my desk unless I ask you to, it’s not yours. Also, don’t get in my space when talking to me, especially at my desk.

Technology You are given a computer by your high school, do you know how great that is? You don’t need any other form of internet accessible gadget in the classroom if you have your laptop. Phones: No. I do not want to see them unless I say you can have them. My room is a red room for all intents and purposes.
