Casey-Jo Kenny Student ID - 20259930 Unit 17 – Assignment one Casey-Jo Kenny Student ID - 20259930

Scenario You are a junior media consultant working for an advertising company. A customer (potential client) has approached your company asking for more information about advertising their products. You have been asked to produce a presentation which describes the uses and features of at least one linear and one interactive multimedia product to present to the customer. The products used must be for different purposes. The customer would also like to find out how the multimedia products are fit for their purpose and what their intended effect is on the audience/users. Think about the strength and weaknesses of the multimedia products. On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and is in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold.

Linear Product For the linear product I have chosen to review the trailer for the Space Jam movie. I choose this product because I think it has a wide range of different features that I can write about. I also chose it because I think it is interesting and catches peoples attention. Link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMOE5OV wWDE On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. I also included an image on the right of the page which shows off the movie poster, which I got from google images. There is also a link on the page which takes you to a YouTube page where you can watch the trailer.

Intended Purpose & Effect The intended purpose of the trailer was to introduce the storyline and the characters involved in the movie. It did this by showing off all the different characters in small scenes so that it didn't reveal to much of the movie and gave away just enough of the storyline to grab peoples attention and make them want more. It was also to promote the movie, it did this by telling people when the movie was coming out at the end of the trailer, the voice over said “in a theatre near you”. Which the picture on the right shows. The intended effect of this trailer was to entertain people and evoke emotion. It achieved this because the trailer was entertaining to watch and it made people excited for the new film and want to go out and see it. On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. I also included a screenshot image of from the trailer where it tells people when the trailer is coming out in voice over.

Intended Audience The movie is rated a PG (Parental Guidance). The intended Audience for the movie is about 3+, this is because of the use of cartoons and iconic characters such as bugs bunny and other looney toon characters which is a big attention draw for young children. However the movie is also suited for teenagers and adults because it’s a mix of cartoon and real life. It includes iconic actors such a Michael Jordan. Also due to the cartoons being characters that have been around since most current adults were kids, it is a draw for them as well. On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. There is also two images on the right of the page, one showing of the cartoons that are used in the film, and another showing the age rating of the film. One of these I got from google images and the other was a print screen from the trailer.

Uses and Features One big feature of the trailer was music. Throughout the trailer there is a range of different songs used. They added theses songs so the silence would be filled and the film would be portrayed as an upbeat and cheerful film. For example they use the song ‘2 UNLIMITED - GET READY FOR THIS’ at the end of the trailer which is a very upbeat and well known song. Another feature that is important is the graphics. Due to the film being a mix of real life and cartoon the graphics have to be very good or it wouldn’t work properly and the cartoons wouldn’t look as if they fit into the movie correctly. On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. I also included an image that I found on google images of a picture clearly showing the mix of real life and cartoon in the film. Under that image is some much smaller text at the size 16. As you can see in the image above, they needed to make the graphics for the cartoons very well done so that it fits with the real life better.

More Uses and Features There are many well known characters used in this movie. Michael Jordan is a basket ball star known around the world, so he will appeal to many people. Also the use of the looney toons will bring in a lot of attention because they are loved by adults and kids alike. Through the trailer there is a voice over talking about when and where the movie will be coming out. The voice over is recorded by Redd Pepper, who is well known for doing dramatic voice overs in movie trailers. I think that they used this type of voice over so that it adds a feel of drama to the trailer. On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. On the right of the page I included an image of the voice over actor Redd Pepper which I found on google images. Under the image is also some text letting the viewer know what the picture is in a smaller font size of 18. The picture above shows the voice over actor Redd Pepper who did the voice over in the trailer.

More Uses and Features In the trailer they use different types of sound, they have pre-recorded voice overs for the cartoons, and these voice overs are recorded by the original voices for these cartoons, for example bugs bunny and the Tasmanian Devil. There are also a variety of sound effects used which adds more of a cartoon feel to the movie. There is also text used in the trailer, they use text when introducing the characters so that the viewers and potential customers know who is going to be apart of the film. They also use text to let the viewer know of other important details, such as the name of the film, and when the film will be released. This is important because without it people wouldn’t know how or when the movie is out and they wouldn’t be able to watch it. On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. I also included an image on the right of the page which is the trailer/movie logo. I found this picture on google images.

Strengths Strengths – I think a huge strength of the trailer is the mix of real life and cartoon, not only is this rarely done and it adds a rare quality to the movie, it also draws in both adults and children because children enjoy cartoons, and adults would be drawn in by the cartoon/real life mix. Another strength is that the trailer isn’t too long, it manages to get the information across and grabs the viewers attention without dragging out the trailer and giving away too much which means the viewer wont get bored and lose interest in the trailer. Finally another strength of the trailer is the storyline, because of how it appeals to the audience and makes the movie seem interesting by mixing both real world and cartoon and from the small view of the storyline that we get from the trailer that intrigues the audience. On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. I also included an image on the right of the page which shows off the mix of cartoon and real life, I found this picture on google images. I also added some text underneath the image that is a size 18. As you can see from the picture above, the mix of cartoon and real life is a huge strength.

This picture shows that some parts of the movie look unrealistic. Weaknesses Weaknesses – One weakness in the trailer is that the music is very loud and overpowering, in some parts in the trailer it is hard to focus on what is going on because of the music. It can be very distracting. This is an issue because some viewers may stop watching the trailer due to getting put off by the music. Another weakness is that some of the stunts are unrealistic, this is mainly due to the time the movie was created and the link with cartoon, but for example when Michael Jordan is being pulled through the worm hole to the looney toon world it looks very unrealistic. This is bad because some viewers are put off by poorly done stunts due to it drawing attention to the movie being fake and it loses that ‘movie magic’ quality. This picture shows that some parts of the movie look unrealistic. On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. I also included an image on the right of the page that was a screenshot from the trailer showing the unrealistic stunts that are included in the trailer/film. I also added some text describing what the picture is in size 16.

Interactive Product For the Interactive product I have chosen to review a game called The Worlds Hardest Game. I chose this game because even though it seems simple and boring there is more too it which makes it interesting to write about. I also chose this game because I think it is fun. Link - http://www.theworldshardestgame.net/ On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. I also included an image on the right of the page which is a screenshot of the main screen of the game.

Intended Purpose & Effect The intended purpose of this game is to entertain the users. The creators achieved this by making the game extremely hard to complete with each level getting harder as you go on. This makes the game addictive and draws the users in because they want to beat the game. The intended effect of the game is to entertain people and evoke emotion. They did this by making the game entertaining and addictive and though this may not be seen as a good thing the game evokes annoyance and anger in some people who are unable to win, however this makes some users more competitive and makes them play more. On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. I also included an image on the right of the page which is a screenshot of the loading page of the game and it tells the user how difficult the game is going to be. I also added some text underneath the image in size 18 which describes what the picture is. The above picture shows that the game is telling you how hard it is going to be which can make people want to play it more.

Intended Audience I don’t think the intended audience of this game is gender based. However stereotypically I think more males than females would play this game due to females being more attracted to games with interesting and cute themes and colours. Men are usually more interested in how the game actually works and the strategy side of it. at an age range of 10+ this could be because the difficulty of the game is extremely hard, so it requires a lot of patience and concentration to play that most younger people don’t have. Another reason the game meets the intended audience is because of the simplicity of it. The game is colour coded so that users can easily understand and play the game and this means it can be played even by beginners from their first try. On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. I didn’t included an image on this slide.

This image shows the messages that pop up in-between each level. Uses and Features There is quite a bit of text used throughout the game. At the start there is the title page and the text used an average size, I’d guess at about ’32’ and the font is a common used style. Also in between each level there is a small sentence sayings things similar too ‘you might as well give up’ which could make the player even more competitive. The graphics of the game are extremely simple, with most of the aspects being either a square or a circle. This allows the game to be easy to understand and quick to load due to not needing to load much. Also by using these simple shapes it is easier to make the game run better due to no complex patterns/shapes having to fit into the game. On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. I also included an image on the right of the page which is a screenshot of the text pages that appear in-between each level. There is also some text underneath the image in the size 18 which describes the image. This image shows the messages that pop up in-between each level.

More Uses and Features The music in the game is a repetitive little tune that is constantly playing. This feature can get quite annoying after a while. The volume of the tune is reasonably loud. I feel that the tune is put into the game to slightly put off the players who leave it playing due to it being annoying and therefore making the game even harder than it already is. The characters in this game are the little red square which signifies the player and the blue circles which are the objects that can kill you. Also as you advance through the game you have to collect little yellow coins or you cannot advance through to the next level. This is good because it adds another aspect to the game, not only do you have to get past the things that kill you, but you have to collect things as well. On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. I also included an image on the right of the page which is a screenshot the second level in the game which shows off all of the sprites/objects. There is also some text underneath the image in the size 18 which describes the image. The above image shows the different types of characters used in the game.

Strengths One strength of the game is that it is difficult, this means that its hard for the users to complete it. This is considered a strength because some people get addicted to trying to complete the game and it makes the users keep playing. This could also mean some people will tell others about the game due to them being able to challenge each other and see who can complete the game first. This gives the game some publicity. Another strength is the layout and colour code of the game. The game is very simple in its design, there isn’t too much information or crowded text/images. It allows the game to be easy to play and understand for new players. It also allows the game to load fast due to it not having to load much on the pages and levels. On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. I also included an image on the right of the page which is a screenshot of the page which loads before you start the game which explains the mechanics of the game. There is also some text underneath the image in the size 18 which describes the image. This picture shows the page of instructions before you play the game which explains the colour code.

This image shows the simple level design used throughout the game. Weaknesses One weakness of the game is the simple and plain level design. Although in some aspects the way the level is designed could be considered a strength, it can also be a weakness because some users are likely to not want to play the game if when they open it doesn’t look fun, colourful and interesting. The music used throughout the game is also a weakness, although the music adds to the game being difficult it could also put many users off due to the annoying repetitive tune, this may make them quit the game o just not play it altogether. Finally another weakness that I found was the lack of how to play instructions, although it can be understood by people who play games regularly, there isn’t actually a page that tells you how to move your sprite. This is an issue because people who are unfamiliar with how games like this usually work wont understand how play the game. On every slide I use the same green patterned background that is layered with a slightly transparent white shape over the top to add a different colour. The text I used is the colour black and was in the font Century Gothic (Body) and is in the size 24 for the text and size 54 for the title. It is also in Bold. I also included an image on the right of the page which is a screenshot of the simple layout and level design that is used throughout the game. There is also some text underneath the image in the size 18 which describes the image. This image shows the simple level design used throughout the game.
