Types of reactions
Learning goals We are learning to identify 4 types of chemical reactions. We are learning to predict the products of chemical reactions.
Synthesis reaction occurs when two or more reactants combine to produce a new product.
Decomposition reaction occurs when one compound breaks down (“decomposes”) into two or more simpler compounds or elements.
Single displacement reaction occurs when one element takes the place of (“displaces”) another element in a compound.
Double displacement reaction occurs when the metal ions of two different compounds exchange places (“two displacements occur”).
