The Oil Pollution Act of 1990 Drafted in August of 1990 The OPA is a national act directed to the people and companies of the United States The OPA has been active for 10 years

OPA improved the ability to prevent and respond to oil spills by making provisions allowing the government to provide money and resources needed to react to any spills OPA led to the creation of the Oil Spill liability trust fund which is allowed to donate 1 billion dollars per oil spill The OPA requires the government to react to oil spills with full public and private force It also requires the federal state and local governments to have detailed plans ready in case of an oil spill It increases the penalties for oil spills and non-compliance Requires state to authorities to have laws governing oil spill prevention and response

Enforcement Agencies Coast Guard, Government and the Military are active enforcers of the OPA By Christian Giap Period 4
