Population World Population: 6,602,224,175 and counting! All the people that live in a place! World Population: As of July 2007 6,602,224,175 and counting! As the population of the world continues to grow, more jobs, food, and resources will be needed. People can only live on a small part of the Earth’s land. People move to different places on Earth for many reasons (climate, jobs, religion). When people move it causes cultural diffusion (the spreading of cultures). How people are spread on the Earth is called population distribution.

The movement of people from farms to cities. URBANIZATION The movement of people from farms to cities. 50% of the people in the world live in cities. Cities have a higher population density than rural areas. Population Density is an average of how many people live per square mile in an area. As people continue to move to cities, Urban Sprawl occurs. The boundaries of cities and their suburbs grow larger.
