Defending the Holderness coast This lesson combines what we have done on a) soft and hard engineering and b) the Holderness coast

Describe and locate coastal management schemes on the Holderness coast (grade C) Explain the advantages and disadvantages of these different schemes (grades B-A) Evaluate the schemes and demonstrate fully how people can both manage and contribute to coastal erosion (Grades A-A*) Learning objectives

Task 1 Read through the various schemes used to protect the coastline at Holderness. a)Mark them all on your map from the previous lesson. b)For at least 2 of them (If you want a B or A then cover 4 schemes) list their advantages and disadvantages Learning Objectives 1and 2 (describing, locating and explaining coastal management schemes)

Task 2 Produce a certificate for the ‘Best coastal defence scheme in Holderness 2014’. On the certificate draw and explain why you chose that scheme Design a ‘Notice to Improve’ statement for the scheme/town that has the worst coastal protection “People should just leave the coast at Mappleton alone” Do you agree? Show you have thought about more than one point of view. Include LINKED Geographical thinking in your answer For each of these 3 tasks you have 10 minutes.
