Atacama Large Millimeter Array Participation ALMA is an equal partnership between: The European Southern Observatory and Spain; and The U.S. National Science Foundation and the Canadian National Research Council To be built on the Chajnantor Science Reserve (5000m elevation) in northern Chile Status ALMA construction with NSF funding began in FY2002; ALMA construction with ESO funding is approved to begin FY2003 Schedule FY2003 Civil Works in Chile begin FY2005 First Production Antenna in Chile; First Front End in Chile FY2007 Begin Early Science Operations FY2011 Construction Complete
