Presentation transcript:

J Robert Oppenheimer was an American Physicist and the man chiefly responsible for the Manhattan Project and the development of the atomic bomb. On seeing the effects of the bomb Oppenheimer was horrified quoting an ancient Indian text – ‘I am become death the destroyer of worlds’ He was particularly angry at the use of the 2nd bomb on Nagasaki an event he felt was wholly unnecessary. Oppenheimer was a deep thinker. He was perhaps sympathetic to communist ideas and was against creating a nuclear arms race. This worried and angered some US politicians. He dedicated his later life to prevent nuclear proliferation.
