How to Clean Dog Runs

Dirty Cage Take cage apart

If towels/toys clean put on top of cage otherwise put in middle aisle Cot is leaned up against door so not to get mixed up with other cages Pick up poop with pooper scooper

Use broom and dustpan to sweep up debris in run Do NOT allow debris to go in the drain

Unhook water bucket Dump water in drain Put bucket in middle aisle Dump uneaten food in garbage and leave in middle aisle to be brought to kitchen

Cage is taken apart Next steps: Rinse Scrub Dry

Hose person rinses runs First rinse should be quick unless there is stuck on poop Quick rinse of walls and floor to rinse off urine and fur

For stuck on poop go into the cage and use a strong close stream of the hose to flush all fecal matter into the drain

Scrub Runs – students will be assigned to scrub runs Dump scrub brush in bucket Start with walls just like in a cage Start at top Use overlapping strokes until you reach the bottom Dip scrub brush in bucket for each section

Scrub floors Scrub floor of run after walls Start at back corner scrubbing toward the drain Use overlapping strokes until you have covered the entire floor You should see the suds

Scrubbing Cots and Doors Students will be assigned to scrub cots and doors Start at top using overlapping strokes Make sure to do front and backs of cots and doors Dump scrub bush in bucket several times as cleaning Keep cots with cages

Final Rinse – Hose person Rinse is a little longer then first rinse Start at top of walls and work your way down Rinse floors last There should be no trace of suds when finished

Squeegee Start at back corner bringing excess water to drain Use overlapping strokes until entire cage has been completed

Towel Dry Towel dry Floor and then cot Place cot back in run

Set Cage Back up Use any blankets or toys that are on top of the cage that are still in good condition Otherwise use new blankets from laundry room Blanket should be folded neatly on cot not touching floor Pay attention to type of blanket needed for that dog (chewers)

Give Water Back Refill water buckets ¾ full Flat end of bucket goes against door Small buckets to small dogs Large buckets to large dogs

Let Dogs Back in Check that all cage doors are shut securely Open doggie doors so that dog can come back in We need to work quickly, it will get cold and dogs will not want to be outside
