Sexual Perversions

“There is no doubt that we live today in a society that is saturated with sexual immorality in all forms. It is a society that has come to place a strong emphasis on sex in almost every area of life…

We cannot watch television, read the newspaper, or do much else, without being made aware of this fact very quickly.” (Swain)

This has become a problem in the church of our Lord We want to consider three important things the Bible teaches us about sex

1. It is a creation of God

Gen. 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

God joined Adam and Eve together He blessed them with the right to have sexual relations as husband and wife Since God created sex it is not “dirty” or “Filthy”

2. Sex is to be enjoyed only in marriage by husband and wife

Heb. 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

1 Cor. 7:1-5 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband…

Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife…

Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

The body of each belongs to the other and each should seek to please the other in their relations

3. Sex is not to be perverted in any way

“Any relations sexually outside of marriage are wrong, and sinful.” Joseph recognized this when he was tempted by Potiphar’s wife

Gen. 39:9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

“Any form of sex outside of marriage constitutes fornication or sexual immorality”

Fornication = this is a general term and refers to any kind of immorality involving sex

Mt. 19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

Fornication includes several types of immorality:

A. Adultery Unlawful relations with the mate of another

B. Pre-marital sex Those who engage in sex before they are scripturally married The sin is in the act committed

C. Bestiality Lev. 18:23 “Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.”

D. Effeminacy 1 Cor. 6:9 – “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind”

Effeminate = “…used of those losing their manliness and given to perform unnaturally, and the word is often used of passive partners to the acts of homosexuality.” (Jackson)

E. Incest Lev. 18:6 “None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.”

This prohibits the marriage and sexual relations of any who are close relatives “Sexual abuse of children would surely be included in this type of sin.”

F. Homosexuality In 1 Cor. 6:9, ”abusers of themselves with mankind” refers to homosexuals Homosexuality/lesbianism is strongly forbidden in the Bible

1 Cor. 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
