OBJECTIVES Review the fire history of the Westlake area. Learn about the Fire Department Response Priorities. Learn about the Fire Department Evacuation Plan.

History It must be remembered that a wildland fire raged through our area in 1961 burned out of control for three days from St. Stephens School Road to Mount Larson. In 2011 several large wildfires burnt thousands of acres during a Labor Day weekend. "Those Who Cannot Remember The Past Are Condemned To Repeat It" - George Santayana

FIRE DEPARTMENT BENCHMARKS PRESERVE LIFE PRESERVE PROPERTY OUR FIRST PRIORITY IS ALWAYS TO PRESERVE LIFE!!

Evacuation Plan You will be notified to evacuate the area by emergency responders or the media. Pay attention to their directions.

Evacuation Kit Have an evacuation kit ready. Don’t forget medications and documents.

How do I tell responders I’m out of my House? Tie a yellow article of clothing to one of the following, your mailbox, front door handle, or security gate to let responders know that everyone is out of the house. Homes that do not have the yellow clothing visible will be checked by responders and marked with yellow emergency scene tape.

Evacuation Routes For residents that do not have transportation, responders will utilize a school bus to pick up residents at locations determined by the Incident Commander during a wildfire. When evacuations are called for, the information will also be sent to the media and on scene responders to help inform residents.

Where will the bus take us? The bus will take all of the residents picked up along the evacuation routes to the Westlake High School for reunification.
