INSPIRE Thematic Cluster on Biodiversity Highlights of the activities Brian Mac Sharry

Introduction to Thematic cluster scope The Biodiversity cluster covers several themes strongly linked to existing reporting obligations: Protected Sites (I)# main focus Habitats and Biotopes (III)# Species Distribution (III)# Biogeographical regions (III)# Area Management (II) #Reporting obligation/workflow. User group very government focused

Activity report on Thematic cluster high lights As these data standards relate strongly to reporting obligations a strong focus was put on communication with the EEA and ETC/BD who have in turn been running a test project on the PS standards. Meeting in Sept with archaeological/cultural heritage experts to discuss the PS standards and there application to this field. SD & HB relate to Articles 12 and 17 reporting obligations which are currently under discussion for the next reporting round in 2019.

Activity report on Thematic cluster low lights Engagement with countries via the forum a challenge. From discussion with countries …. “Need to start getting transformed soon for Natura 2000 and CDDA-1, they [EEA/DG Env] keep mentioning INSPIRE in these reporting workflows but we have not received any specific directions yet” Gareth John, DEHLG, Ireland,

Thematic cluster/sub-group proposals for gaps filling, improvements The last several months have been building to identify potential changes to the DS that will enhance them and fill in any potential gaps. Discussion via forum, off forum, with the archaeological community and with the EEA have lead to a number of concrete proposals for changes.
