Subjects and Predicates 6th grade

Complete Subjects The subject is the who or the what. The subject will contain the noun or the pronoun. The subject will usually be the first part of the sentence.

Complete Predicate The complete predicate contains the verb (action or linking) The complete predicate tells what the subject does (action) The complete predicate tells what the subject is (linking) The complete predicate usually comes at the end of the sentence.

Finding the subject She jumped off the edge. Most of the kids brought their lunch today. Someone in the back row was talking. The waitress forgot about our food. The girls were giggling about something.

Finding the complete subject The boat was sinking fast. We all were rather nervous about the really big English test. The farmers worked hard to finish the harvest. The boys’ basketball team won every game last year.

Finding the predicate I learned how to ski a long time ago. The books were all on the shelf. She is working hard on the project. The teacher graded most of the papers over the weekend. The runner’s legs collapsed at the end of the long race.

Finding the predicate The football team had a great season. The sudden snow storm surprised everyone. He was snoring louder than usual. Jacob got hit by a snowball. Hannah practiced the piano for thirty minutes.
