The School Counseling Department Your School Counselors: Mrs. Hamilton (A- E) Mrs. Taylor (F- K) Mr. Putt (L- Q) Ms. Cattrano (R-Z) Student Support- Mrs. Luette Career Connections- Mrs. Trump Secretaries- Mrs. Seegren and Mrs. Tucker Describe everyone’s role. These members, along with the other members of the ILT have been meeting since this summer and continue to meet and plan for Century’s opening.

Graduation Requirements 1 Fine Art 1 Technology Ed. Foundations of Tech or *PLTW 1 credit of Physical Ed. ½ Health ½ Financial Literacy (Grade 11-12) Or Managing Personal Finance Using Excel (1 cr) 2 World Language or 2 Advanced Technology and/or State approved completer program 4 English English 9, 10, 11, 12 English 10 (PARCC) English 11 (PARCC) Can take AP Lang (11) or AP Lit (12) 3 Social Studies Gov’t (HSA) US History World History 4 Math- Conceptual Algebra /Algebra I (PARCC) Geometry Algebra II (Accuplacer) Must have a math each year of high school. 3 Science Conceptual Physics Chemistry I Biology (HSA) All students must complete these specific credits, including some elective credits. YOU are responsible for knowing these requirements and ALL graduation requirements. Counselors and mentor teachers will help you, but ultimately it is your responsibility to keep track of your credits. In 9th grade, you will begin working on your 4year plan. This plan will help guide you through your 4 years at CHS and will make sure that you include all credits needed to graduate as well as those needed for your Academy and future plans.

Additional Graduation Requirements Students must complete 75 service learning hours Students must earn a minimum of 25 credits A minimum of 4 credits must be earned beyond the junior year Students must attend 4 years of high school beyond the 8th grade Students must complete ALL requirements in order to graduate. 26 credits required- this allows 6 credits left over. Many of your electives will count towards your Academy. Options senior year include: Internships, Concurrent Enrollment, Work Experience or taking addition and/or upper level courses like AP courses- explained in Program of Studies. Senior Seminar-Possible senior project, dress for success, interview procedures….etc.

What are Completer Programs and Career Majors? Completer Programs: A series of courses in a specialized career area. Completers programs are available at LHS and the Career and Technology Center. CCCTC completer programs require an application during your sophomore year. Career Majors: Course sequences within a specific career cluster and pathway which enable a student to work toward a career option . You must complete courses in a career major to do an internship during your senior year. Dual Completer: when a student completes the requirements for admission to the University of Maryland system and a Career and Technology Education program of study!

Course requests All course requests will be completed through the online Educational Career Plan. Counselors will meet individually with students to enter their course requests and review their four year plan. A copy of the Educational Career Plan will be printed in advisory and given to the student to review with their parent along with an explanation letter. Students are encouraged to consult with their teachers regarding course levels as well as recommended courses.

Course Planning As you plan courses to take, keep in mind… Level of courses (Academic, Honors, AP) Your interests, careers Pre-requisites Course descriptions- use the Program of Studies online!!!

Planning for 4 year colleges Keep your grades up- if you are struggling, talk to your teacher, advisor, or counselor. Take higher level courses, above and beyond the graduation requirements. Get involved- join clubs, sports, fine arts programs. Take on leadership roles. Think about planning ahead for an internship or career experience. Do community service. Start researching schools on www.collegeboard.org

Please come to the counseling office to meet your counselor. If you are unable to attend at the scheduled time, please come to the counseling office to reschedule.
