LEARNING EVENT OBJECTIVES TO LEARN

COLLABORATING, LEARNING AND ADAPTING. WHY? COLLABORATING, LEARNING AND ADAPTING. NOT a meeting for presentations of evaluations, reviews, marketing.

WHY? Robust Learning so we can develop the appropriate indicators, make mid- course corrections and share lessons learned across the agency and with external partners. (Building Resilience to Recurrent Crisis: USAID Policy and Program Guidance). USAID/East Africa will continue to convene regional meetings and consultations, bringing partners from focus countries together to share best practices, lessons learnt and to coordinate action. (Feed the Future: EAST AFRICA: FY 2011-2015 Multi-Year Strategy.)

WHAT IS LEARNING?

WHAT THIS MEETING IS NOT. A series of project agency marketing presentations , A training workshop An opportunity to present research findings Another opportunity to pick up the disagreements you have with others in the room.

Agenda Review USAID Animators.

WHAT THIS MEETING IS. A Calm in the Storm An opportunity to collaborate with peers. An opportunity to learn about other approaches and challenges. An opportunity to conceptualize adaptations to the approaches you use in your programmes.

WHAT THIS MEETING WILL NEED FROM YOU. Openness Honesty Self Critical Approach Constructive Peer Support We can only do better by learning together.

RESILIENCE. USAID Theory of Change “by reducing risk, building resilience and expanding economic opportunities, we can strengthen social stability and economic growth in targeted dryland areas in the Horn of Africa”

TO INFORM THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE RESILIENCE FRAMEWORK 2 Improving joint understanding of the USAID resilience approach and its impact on programming. Improving programming by sharing experiences and perspectives gained through implementation. Improving collaboration learning and adaptation of programmes and partnerships in the coming years.

Debate – The Resilience approach has made our programmes better and we will see an increase in social stability and economic growth in drylands areas as a result
