CIA Leak Investigation Should journalists be forced to reveal their sources when a crime has been committed if doing so would help a court of law uncover the truth? YES. In a criminal investigation, the source's right to remain anonymous is less important than the need to be sure justice is served. NO. Sources will be less likely to provide information to the media if their names can be revealed in a court of law, making it more difficult for reporters to break important stories. CIA Leak Investigation Scooter Libby was ultimately convicted of lying and obstructing a leak investigation related to the Valerie Plame affair. His sentence was then commuted by President Bush. Should the president have intervened? YES. It is always at the president's discretion to intervene in such matters; he was within his power to do so, whether the public agrees with his decision or not. NO. The president promised he would punish anyone involved with the leak, so he should have let the decision stand. Copyright © Houghton Mifflin Company. All rights reserved.
