TIME FRAME: 3rd Quarter- 2012

BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION: TRADE UNIONISM are refuge of workers and other walks of life in their continuous struggle and in courageously promoting their rights, welfare and interest as far as in the economic, political, socio-cultural as well as moral aspects of their lives. Through trade unionism, workers find best expressions of their strength and capacity to advance their cause for just and humane society, greater opportunities and to take part in the process of decision-making.

BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION: The MTUC is committed to organize into a strong and responsible association of workers/ employees/ other sectors of society that they be more effectively promote the concerns of all sectors. Further, the best way to achieve the above aspirations is through continuous education. It plays a very important role in molding the workers heart, mind and soul towards total understanding of their existence at the workplace and in the community or society. It promote and safeguard their interest, welfare and basic rights. Further, this is the very reason why this course is being initiated.

OBJECTIVES: - To initially develop the awareness of participants regarding their rights and welfare as workers and their responsibilities as human being, workers, union members and as part of the society. - To protect and promote workers’ right and interest as well as the welfare of the people in general

ACTIVITIES TO ACHIEVE THE OBJECTIVES: Identify and analyze common problems encountered at the workplace and in the society Enumerate workers’ / human rights under the law; and Discuss the importance of the Core Labor Standards and other ILO Conventions.
