American Foreign Policy Faced by Depression - Americans wanted neutrality. Congress passed Neutrality Acts- banned sale of arms or loans to countries at war.

Hitler’s Aggression 1938 – Hitler Annexed (took over) Austria. Later he claims the Sudetenland, the western part of Czechoslovakia

Munich Conference Meeting between leaders of Britain, France, Italy and Germany. Hitler promises to seek no further territory if the Sudetenland was acquired. To preserve peace, Britain and France give in.

Appeasement The practice of giving into aggression in order to avoid war.

Hitler’s Response Germany seized the rest of Czechoslovakia Appeasement had failed.
