Section A Research (out of 10) Grading Criteria

Brief history of the mag, readership, etc. Research – 10 Marks 2 weeks You must provide 2 - 4 examples of the following types of research (see exemplar on VLE): Examining and annotating texts (2 for comparison – 1front page and one inside page x 2 diff genres). Inc codes and conventions used. Key concept analysis. Info about the institution, etc Research a genre of magazine. Inc sub genres, target audiences, etc. Visual examples. Genre conventions, etc Interpretations of information found through books and the internet – you must look at: A mini case study about a specific magazine, inc info re. institution who created the magazines (see PP) Brief history of the mag, readership, etc. Completed questionnaires about your new magazine. Make two title pages (one saying Research & one saying Planning). On the page write down the work you’ve done (see above)

Section B Planning (out of 10) Grading Criteria

Planning – 10 Marks 2 weeks You must provide 2 - 4 examples of the following types of planning (see exemplar on VLE – , but look at the level of detail): Results from your questionnaire – write about how it will affect the planning of your magazine. You can use graphs etc Mind maps/mood boards about the name and content of your magazine and what will be included in your magazine(genre conventions, etc). Write in some detail about the articles you will include. Examples of fonts for your magazine and reasons for using them. Hand drawn mock ups of your poster with Key Concept analysis OR (if you’re no good at drawing) Internet draft versions of your magazine using Photoshop, again with Key Concept analysis. These can be presented as annotated sheets, word documents, images, etc.

Evaluation – 10 Marks (300-500 words) met its aims and purpose – what did you intend to do? What worked, what didn’t, what changed, why? used appropriate generic conventions – list the magazine conventions you’ve used. Compare them to existing magazines, did they work, how/why? used representations – how were people represented? Use media language (mise en scene) terminology? used narrative (where appropriate) – does your magazine tell a story – are there ‘enigma codes’: headlines that keep you guessing/make you want to read on? addressed the chosen or preferred audience(s) and/or user(s) – identify the demographic and stress how you’ve tried to appeal to them. revealed media organisational issues (copyright, censorship, etc) – write about how you have used a mixture of original and found images and how your images are suitable for your target audience. write about what you would do to improve your work.
