How To Order Blood Products To order the blood product, use the name of the blood product to search. In this example we will search for “Red Blood Cells”. You may also search for these blood products: Cryoprecipitate Platelets Red Blood Cells Fresh Frozen Plasma Type and Screen ABO/RH Type Click on the “Select” tab. Meditech Annual Competency

How To Order Blood Products This screen will launch. Enter the number of units by clicking on the number in this box. Fill in the other boxes as needed. Click on the “OK” tab. Meditech Annual Competency

How To Order Blood Products When you order special blood, you will see extra pop-up boxes reminding you to notify lab about the special order. This alerts the lab to begin the longer-than-usual process of obtaining the specially prepared blood product. If any of these 4 types of blood are needed enter “Y”, the pop-up box will remind you to notify lab and the 2 queries below them are required. Meditech Annual Competency

How To Transfuse Blood Products To order the transfusion of a blood product use the look-up screen and search “blood”. Select the NUR order “Blood Administer”. Click on “Select”. This screen will launch. Enter the number of mls or units to be transfused. Use the F9 look-up to select the blood product. Click okay. Meditech Annual Competency

You may also order blood products and/or transfusions using an order set From the Orders screen, click on “Order Sets”. This will launch a screen to enter information about the ordering provider and the order source. Enter information for the ordering provider and the order source. This screen will launch. Click on the “Blood Bank/Transfuse” order set. Then click the “Process” tab (it will become active after you select the order set. This screen will launch. Click on the + sign to view the orders under the headings. Select the desired orders and then click “Done”.

Meditech Annual Competency Ack Blood orders When you are acknowledging orders for blood products (RBC, FFP, or Platelets), please scroll down look carefully at the details of the order. Physicians are required to answer these questions as they are placing the order. These details pull to this screen If the answer to any of these questions is Y, nursing must place a phone call to lab. Meditech Annual Competency
