University of Pennsylvania Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering ESE Senior Design DEMO TIMES Thursday, April 21 rd, :30 am – 12:00 pm 2:00 pm – 2:30 pm Authors Lindsey Eatough ESE11 Tosin Osibodu ESE11 Adam Sharaff ESE11 Jordan Zarrilli ESE11 Team 20 Advisor Dr. John Keenan For the Audience Excessive time spent waiting in line at concession stands For the Concession Stand Potential revenue lost from line avoidance Poor transactional efficiency Outdated inventory management For the Stadium Poor customer service for general seating Lack of technological innovation Higher profile concession stands create longer lines Mobile Web Application Simple user interface Quick order flow Device agnostic Optimal formatting Communication bridge between user and vendor Vendor System Real time order reception Dynamic menu management Easy order tracking Expedited line Detailed order archives The system of purchasing food and beverage at stadiums is slow, inefficient, and technologically outdated. As a result, patrons are forced to stand in lines that take away from the experience of attending a live event. Stadium Express is a system that gives users the ability to order food from their mobile devices, which can be picked up from an expedited line at the most conveniently located vendor. The system provides an intuitive interface for concession stands to receive orders in real time, manage the status of these orders, and dynamically update their menu. The approach to creating Stadium Express involved interaction with patrons and stadium facility officials both at the professional and collegiate level to determine the desired capabilities of the product. To maximize the platforms reach, the Stadium Express team created a mobile website as opposed to an application specific to one type of smart phone. While testing the product, patrons were responsive to the succinct flow of the ordering process and stadium officials were excited about the technological innovation such a system would offer. Stadium Express provides an ordering platform that gives event-goers and stadiums a more efficient transaction. The system can be easily implemented into the existing infrastructure of venues both large and small. The process will minimize the time a patron spends away from the main attraction of the stadium, while simultaneously increasing the convenience of ordering food and beverage. Concession stands will be able to serve a greater number of patrons while also improving the quality of their customer service. Potential User Survey – Fall 2010 Fragmented market signals that any comprehensive solution needs to be device agnostic Mobile web application can be utilized from any device capable of accessing the internet Beta Test - 4/3/2011 Location: Meiklejohn Stadium Set up simulated concession stand to test the functionality of our system Test drew 50 orders over its three hour period Certain Blackberry phones received errors during ordering process Ordering process was not efficient enough As vendor, reception of new orders was too slow Formatting rendered pages difficult to read on certain phones notification system performed optimally Users from wide variety of age groups found system simple and easy to use Stadium Express has evolved into an application that truly improves the experience of ordering food at events, both from the user and vendor perspective. Stadium Express provides a platform which facilitates smooth interactions and promotes data preservation through the vendor History functionality. Furthermore, through the evolution of this product, the Stadium Express team has been able to successfully create an interface which is easy, feasible and attractive for stadiums to implement. The user interface is easy for the customer to interact with and has a high degree of demonstrated interest. Finally, the current version of Stadium Express is scalable and expanding the scope of the product in further iterations will be easy to do. 2:30 pm – 3:00 pm 3:00 pm – 3:30 pm Our model reduces the time between when a user inputs an order to when that order is fulfilled.
