Longitude What is Longitude? Lines of Longitude run vertically. Lines of longitude are called meridians. Lines of longitude run east to west from the North Pole to the South Pole. The Prime Meridian is 0 degrees Longitude. The International Dateline is 180 degrees east and west! Lines of Longitude locate places East or West of the Prime Meridian.
