Statistics 1 out of 4 children in America grow up without learning how to read 2/3 of students who can’t read proficiently by the end of fourth grade will end up in jail or on public assistance

How can you help? Collect books and distribute to children in your community Donate to the First Lady’s project Donated funds will be used to purchase books that will be distributed to children

How can you help? Purchase a First Lady’s Project pin or banner patch These donations will be used to purchase books for our partner hospitals and similar institutions.

Goals 100,000 books distributed throughout the district Kiwanis and SLP clubs to partner with their local PBS affiliates Get members involved in reading to children in their local schools

Project Ideas & Tips Seek a partnership with Scholastic and their Reading Oasis Program or any other reading programs available Get involved with schools to develop literacy nights for students and their families

Develop summer reading camps and/or programs Work with schools in your communities to develop ways to celebrate student success in reading
