WELCOME TO HIGHSHCOOL!!! Coach Helms – Dean of Students 9-12

We have high expectations for our academics and our discipline creates an atmosphere that allows for our academics to flourish. Mrs. Brink is asking me, our faculty, staff, and students, to put in their best effort so that they are learning with minimal distractions and making good choices.

Mrs. Brink's and my task, along with all of our faculty and staff, is to help make sure our students have a safe learning environment. To do this, I help mentor students in appropriate behaviors and works with families, students, faculty, and administration to provide positive reinforcements and enforce our student code of conduct.

A quick refresher of our most important and relevant policies

The Dress Code Policy is Explicitly explained in the Code of Conduct

Bottom Attire: All pants, shorts, and skirts are to be secured and worn at the waist. All bottom attire must have an intact waistband in- tact that has not been cut-off. Hemlines for shorts, skirts, and dresses must be no shorter than 5 inches above the knee or no shorter than the student’s fingertips when the hands are held naturally at the side. Any short, dress, shirt or skirt that is shorter than 5 inches above the knee or no shorter than the student’s fingertips must be worn over tights, yoga pants, leggings, stretch pants, or any pant without a zipper. Yoga pants, tights, leggings, spandex or stretch pants may not be worn unless under shorts, dress, shirt or skirt as described. Any and all parts of any cuts, tears, partial tears, slits, rough or jagged edges or patches must be below 5 inches above the knee or beyond the student’s fingertips when the hands are held naturally at the side.

Top Attire: All top attire must fully cover all undergarments Top Attire: All top attire must fully cover all undergarments. Necklines should provide full coverage and not have a low-cut neckline. Shirts and dresses must cover the entire back and midriff. Sleeves must be at least three fingers wide and cover any undergarments and should stay on shoulder. Unless authorized by Administration, sleepwear and pajamas are prohibited.

We hold all of our students to high expectations and are monitoring to make sure that they are in class. * New attendance policy for unexcused absences * New reward for not missing school * Contracts for missing school unexcused

Since we know student absenteeism has a direct correlation with successful student performance, one of our main focus areas this upcoming year is student absences.  This is a state-wide initiative as well.  Our goal is to put in incentives for students to attend and to be on time.  We are working with our board to approve a new reward for not missing school and more details will come out soon.  Know that students will be placed on an attendance contract for excessive unexcused absences. Violation of the contract means a withdraw of invitation.

After 10 minutes, students are absent from the class. If a student misses four periods, they are absent from the school day and cannot participate in extracurricular activities. Parents should receive a phone call if their student is absent and to always check focus each week. Be sure your information in FOCUS is correct – PHONE NUMBER & EMAIL ARE REALLY IMPORTANT

Mrs. Brink wants to make sure that students are not only attending but they are making use of their learning time. Just a reminder that students will get consequences for refusing to work on assignments or taking notes in class or causing a disruption to the learning environment.

No more drop offs or deliveries at the front office

High school students are dealing with a lot of pressures (in society in general) and with the added stress of social media, sometimes they may need other supports. We have a social worker and counselors on staff willing to assist if needed in student services... and hopefully, there will be no need for this, but we work collaboratively with FSU and they have a Victim Advocate Program that can provide services as well.

Social Media Liking, sharing, sending can have unintended consequences Snap Chat gives the students a feeling of invincible because it “disappears” * Multiple Instagram accounts, one for “SPAM” (banter and disrespectful discussions)
