Set 3 Genetics Vocabulary

Mutation – random change in a gene or chromosome Nucleus – cell structure that directs all cell activities, structure contains all DNA

3. Probability – the chance that a particular outcome will happen 4. Clone – an organism that is genetically identical to the organism from which it was produced

5. Carrier – a person who has once recessive allele for a trait and one dominant allele, but does not have the trait 6. Allele – copies of the gene for each characteristic

7. Punnett square – a diagram you can use to show hoe likely each outcome of a breeding experiment

8. Chromosomes – a double rod of condensed chromatin; contains DNA that carries genetic information 9. DNA – the genetic material that carries information about an organism and is passed from parent to offspring

10. Nature vs. nurture – the debate about how genes and the environment affect traits

11. Pedigree – a family tree used for genetic analysis
