TRAVELLING IN THE CIRCULATORY SISTEM To cells arrive… Useful substances Oxygen From cells depart… Waste substances Carbon dioxide

The Heart Your heart is a muscular organ that pumps blood all around your body. It is on the left side of your body behind the rib cage and the lungs. It has four different parts (chambers): two ATRIA in the upper side and two VENTRICLES in the lower side Heart and body are linked by blood vessels

Blood vessels We have two different kinds of blood vessels: veins (blue in the picture) and arteries (the red ones). Arteries are tubes that deliver oxygen rich blood to all your body Veins are tubes that deliver carbon dioxide rich blood to your heart. Arteries are bigger and stronger than veins.

Blood We have five litres of blood inside our body. Blood is made of a pale liquid (PLASMA) and by: Red blood cells (containing haemoglobin). They deliver oxygen and carbon dioxide White blood cells They help your body to fight diseases Platelets (tiny fragments of cells) They help to stop the bleeding when you cut yourself.

Ndjock Ngana
