EHS beyond Compliance Presenter : Saurabh Srivastava Towards excellence !! Presenter : Saurabh Srivastava Senior Lead – EHS & Sustainability, GMR Energy Ltd, New Delhi

Move Beyond Compliance & Create a Strong Safety Culture Generally majority of focus is on... EHS Compliance for rules & regulations Achieve the requirements of EHS Manual Achieve the long term goal as suggested by management or 3rd party… But does it actually meets for what we are …. Big NO EHS Compliance or Life Safety … A Sustainable Society 11/23/2018 EHS beyond compliance

What is the status - Jump Leap Big EHS Excellence & Sustainability Best Practices, Guidelines, Manuals, etc. Safety – Laws & Regulation Compliances 11/23/2018 EHS beyond compliance

Some hard facts : Enemy of Safety Excellence Organizations encourage risk taking & develop a tolerance for failure in pursuits of profit, but have a completely different view of safety When fear of failure becomes the primary driver of safety efforts, the results often are self-limiting Lack of failure is rewarded without regard to the performance that led to it Executives and senior managers often separate their duties from safety and also may allow lower-level managers and supervisors to do the same. The delegating of safety by organizational leaders is not just an abdication of a basic duty, it is a means of creating a scapegoat for potential failure. If the leader can produce a profit, even at the cost of accidents, the leader succeeds in his career & the failure belongs to the safety professional. And so on … 11/23/2018 Add a footer

How to bridge the gap - Technology Because industries are constantly evolving and technology is playing a greater role in helping them to Ensure compliance Drive profitability Reduce risks Improve environmental Social performance. Systematic approach Study the gaps Performance analysis Action Plan Survey So on…. “What we got is because what we did & what we will get because what we will do” So we have to change to get what we want.. 11/23/2018 EHS beyond compliance

What all we initiate – we must TPA Process & Manuf. Regulatory Supply Chain Hazards & Incidents Key Personnel Track Predict Analyze Risks to business One incident can cause a company to lose public credibility, profit, customers, and most importantly, lives. Track, Predict, and Analyze 11/23/2018 EHS beyond compliance

How far we track, Predict & Analyze... Till week, fortnight, month…..mostly till CAPA Compliance – Is that enough ?? Are we satisfied…..............BIG NO. What we did…… Track the incident investigation Track the CAPA compliance Track the PROCESS change Bring it into training and SOP Is it sufficient ?? 11/23/2018 EHS beyond compliance

TPA helps... Micro analysis – Drill down Till Core… Just few !! Incident Investigation A separate group monitoring the Incident Investigation – Quality of report Submission of report Deployment of report CAPA Compliance Preparation of road map for CAPA compliance in Totality - Gap Analysis Resource planning Time Gap arrangement Lead time Actual Deployment till last mile… Analysis Each & Every workforce got to know the incident & CAPA Reassessment of risk @ scheduled intervals Brining in risk register & updating the control measures 11/23/2018 EHS beyond compliance

TPA helps... Micro analysis – Drill down Till Core… Just Few !! MoC Process Change – (MOC) - Change at machine design level Change at local process level Change incorporated in SOPs Training Management Preparation of road map for Training & SOP - Including new module Incident awareness – animation / video Short awareness to all required persons in phase manner Training effectiveness Assessment at shop floor Training to all Develop similar micro plans for other EHS elements 11/23/2018 EHS beyond compliance
