Cell organelles function: copy into notes Tinyurl Cell organelles function: copy into notes Tinyurl.com/maplesbio (organelle notes) DNA- genetic information/instructions to build proteins Nucleus – Contains DNA & controls all cell processes (brain of cell) Ribosomes- Build proteins (workers) Endoplasmic Reticulum (smooth and rough)- Transport proteins (highway) Golgi Body (apparatus)- Packages proteins to leave the cell (post office) Cell membrane- Controls what enters and leaves the cell (allows proteins to exit cell) Mitochondria- uses sugar to create ENERGY for the cell Vacuole- Food and water storage Cytoplasm- Jelly like material that fills the empty space in cell Chloroplast- Uses sunlight to create SUGAR/Glucose through photosynthesis Cell wall- Supports and protects PLANT CELLS

To-do: Color code your cell pictures: Organelles that both cells have should be COLORED THE SAME COLOR – glue this into spiral Both Nucleus – purple Both Endoplasmic reticulum- green Both Golgi apparatus- yellow Both Mitochondria- red Both Cell membrane –orange Both Vacuoles- blue Ribosomes are the little black dots (just leave them black) Cytoplasm- leave UNCOLORED Complete the front side of the organelle practice with the big table
