Balloting 2017-2018 Course Selection

Important Dates Math signing – Wednesday, February 1st Remaining subjects – Thursday, February 2nd Ballots due to English teacher – Monday, February 6th

Front of 12th grade Ballot Use pencil to complete Read directions Closely Make sure to get all required signatures

Back of 12th grade ballot Choose wisely Number electives from 1-5 in order of preference *Get teacher/counselor Signature when needed

Teacher Recommendations You must maintain a C or better during the second semester to be recommended to advance in Math and Foreign Language courses. You will need a signature for all courses with an * next to them for both core classes as well as electives. Just because a teacher signs off on a recommended class, does not always mean you have to take the class. You can consult with your counselor if you are unsure.

Choosing electives and alternates As the example shows, the classes are numbered, and the classes with an * have a signature from the recommending teacher.

ROP and work experience *Juniors and Seniors Only ROP – regional occupational program. 2 class periods offered off site. Meets PA and CTE requirements toward graduation. Good attendance is crucial. For cosmetology, (seniors only) you must apply first, then take a test before you are accepted. Choose other electives now, and your counselor will drop them if you are accepted. For more information on ROP classes and short video clips: https://www.monet.k12.ca.us/district/alternative-and-vocational-education/vocational- education Work Experience – You must have a job first, before adding it to your schedule. See the coordinator for more information.

ROP – For These classes you must have your own transportation Fashion Merchandising - Gregori Advanced Fashion Merchandising and Home/Design - Gregori Launch your own Business - Enochs Retail Sales - Enochs Employment Opportunities - Enochs

Pre-AP and AP Workload AP offers college level coursework and exams for highly self-motivated students. Must be responsible, organized, and be willing to commit the average time for homework. Must complete Summer assignments. Speak with teachers directly, ask questions to see if this is a good fit for you.

Pre-AP and AP Workload Be realistic about how much time you can devote when choosing a workload. Can you balance the work + other extra-curricular activities?

Target Mid year Credits Freshman: 30 Sophomore: 85 Junior: 140 If you are not on target or have ever failed a course, see your counselor.

Graduation Requirements It’s never too early to start thinking about your future. You can always prepare for a 4 year college, and then make different plans in the future. If you DON’T prepare, you may lose the opportunity.

A-G and 4 year University requirements You must earn a C or better both semesters to meet the requirement. D and F grades may be made up in summer school or ESS for some courses, but they will remain on your transcript. Athletes! NCAA clearinghouse DOES NOT accept remediated courses from ESS and SS. You must earn a C or higher in your regular scheduled courses. Common challenges that hold students back: Not taking your two consecutive years in a foreign language Not meeting the minimum math requirement of Secondary Math 3 Low GPA or college test scores
