STIGMA is: Negative attitudes; Negative behaviors; 5 of 18 STIGMA is: Negative attitudes; Negative behaviors; Having fixed ideas and judgments about people with mental health problems.

STOP - Just ask yourself if what you hear: 8 of 18 STOP - Just ask yourself if what you hear: Stereotypes people with mental health conditions (that is, assumes they are all alike rather than individuals)? Trivializes or belittles people with mental health conditions and/or the condition itself? Offends people with mental health conditions by insulting them? Patronizes people with mental health conditions by treating them as if they were not as good as other people? Source: Canadian Mental Health Association

5 things we can do to BREAK 9 of 18 5 things we can do to BREAK HOW YOU TALK ABOUT IT MATTERS! Avoid joking about mental health problem or using negative/disrespectful terms or labels. EDUCATE YOURSELF about mental health problems. BE KIND, COMPASSIONATE AND NON-JUDGMENTAL toward others who may be struggling.

5 things we can do to BREAK 10 of 18 5 things we can do to BREAK SHARE YOUR STORY (If you have one). It can be very powerful in helping others who are silently struggling. CHALLENGE NEGATIVE DIALOGUE. Do not engage in workplace gossip or negative talk about mental health. Have the courage to stand up and challenge what is being said or how others are being treated.

14 of 18 ACCEPT Sometimes we have our own biases that we need to challenge. Look inside yourself, what do you think about mental health? Change negative attitudes and behaviors.

15 of 18 LEAD Do not engage in negative dialogue about mental health, it diminishes us all. Stand up for others who may be struggling or are being treated negatively. STOP STIGMA!
