An Adventure Through the Rainforest By: Grace, Celina, and Jessica
What is a rain forest? The rainforest is a habitat where many animals live. The rainforest is home to about half of the world’s animals. A rainforest is a home to hundreds of the world’s interesting plants too. The rain forests that still exist only cover 6% of the world.
Location of Rain Forests The rainforests are on only five different continents. These continents are named North America, South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia. All tropical rain forests are located around the equator.
Emergent Layer This layer is made of trees that stick above the canopy. The Harpy eagle, parrots, and hawks fly and build their nests here. Butterflies and pygmy gliders live here too.
Canopy Layer Many animals live in the this layer. Some animals that live in that area are sloth, monkeys, and many, many birds. There can be many dangerous creatures like the poisonous dart frog.
Understory Layer This layer is a wonderful area for the animals. Jaguars, lemurs, parrots, ocelots, and even tree porcupines live in there. This layer is home to many animals as you see.
This layer is a very interesting layer This layer is a very interesting layer. There are also animals that live there like the anteaters, tapirs, capybaras, armadillos, and hogs. These are some insects. The dragonflies, ladybugs, and fire ants. Forest Floor
Deforestation Many people are destroying the remaining rain forests for their lumber. At the same time people are killing animals. Because of this, many animals are endangered. Rainforests are also endangered because people find minerals underground, they build cities and roads, and clear the land for cattle grazing.
People of the Rain Forest These people are known as our heroes. Rainforest people have helped us by their medicines and they still do. One out of every four medicines are made from the rainforest, which these people have helped us make.
