@RCAGVocations is the official twitter feed for vocations in the Archdiocese of Glasgow. The vocations office is releasing a tweet each day in the month of November as part of the vocations drive. As a lesson starter, ask students to access the twitter feed @RCAGVocations. If this is not possible, a selection of tweets could be accessed by the teacher before the lesson. Students could be asked to select a tweet to reflect on individually or it could form part of a whole class lesson starter.

Students could be asked to choose one word, or a number of words, and write down how and by who any particular word was used in the video and then they could reflect upon what that word means in their own lives as individuals.

Give students time to speak to the people around them about the video. Possible discussion questions: How do we understand the role of the priest in our Churches, in our schools and in society as a whole? Is thinking about becoming a priest or a religious (Sister, Brother, Monk, Nun) a reasonable option for young people today? In a world where we are constantly connected and receiving and processing information, how do we become “empty vessels”? How do we make space for God in our lives? In the video, priests are described as “empty vessels through which God works”. Discuss the meaning of this quote and how God works through the priest when he exercises his sacramental ministry.

One of the university students quotes St John Vianney in describing the role of the priest when she says: “…there is no point in having a house full of gold without someone to open the door.” The picture above of St John Vianney is a hyperlink. You may wish to select certain paragraphs from this resource that best illustrate the role of the priest and ask them to work in pairs or small groups discussing the meaning of a particular paragraph and applying it or comparing it to their understanding of the priesthood.
