Polynomial Long Division

We can determine if a binomial or other polynomial term is a factor of a larger polynomial by seeing if it divides evenly. is 9 a factor of 117? 9 117

Division works the same for Polynomials (x-4) 2x4-5x3-14x2+15x-28

How many times does the lead term of the divisor go into the lead term of the dividend? (3x-2) into 6x3+11x2-28x+12 ?

Remember! if EVERY exponent isn't present in the polynomial, you must put in a zero coefficient for that term. (x+2) x5+2x4-5x2-9x+2

Practice Polynomial Long Division

Remainder Theorem If there is no remainder the divisor is a factor What is there IS a remainder? (x+3) (6x2-8x-2)
