History & Nature of Science SWBAT: Identify how diverse people (past & present) have made important contributions to scientific innovations. (AZ Sci. Stds: S2.C1.P1) Astronomers Research and Electronic Presentation Project

Astronomers We are going to be researching four important Astronomers: Percival Lowell Nicholaus Copernicus Edwin Hubble Galileo Galilei

To Do’s: List the selected Astronomers and restate biographical information. Discuss the major accomplishments of each of the selected Astronomers Describe the technology used or designed by each of the Astronomers Create a PowerPoint or Photo Story presentation (10 slides minimum, 3 minutes max).

Research: Using the Presentation rubric as your guide, answer the following for each of the four astronomers: Who was this person? What education / career did this person have? Other interesting information. What did this person discover, design, and/or contribute to the field of Astronomy or Science in general?

Research: Where did they live? & When were they alive? (Who did they work with? Did they collaborate or base their theories on other Astronomers’ work?) Were they interested in Astronomy? What motivated their work? How did they make their contribution? Did they design, observe, calculate or all of the above to arrive at their discovery?

Presentation Preparation Story board your ideas (use paper to layout your slides) Sketch what you want your slide to look like. Where is the text going and where are the pictures? What is the purpose of the slide? Stick to one idea per slide 1-2 supporting images on each slide Reference information should be at the bottom of each slide.

Final Presentation DUE WEDNESDAY 2/20/13 10 slides minimum Include a title slide 3 minute maximum Discuss your slides without ‘reading them’. Put the most important information on the slides. You can use note cards to remind you of what you need to say.
