America Moves Toward War SMART Assessment Mr. White’s US History 1

As Great Britain, France, and Russia fought in Europe at the start of World War II, the United States decided to become the “great arsenal of democracy,” supplying war materiel to its allies. The U.S.’s reason for doing this was primarily to: Prepare itself for war with Japan Provide war industry jobs to the unemployed Help its allies continue to fight against Hitler Make profits from war industries Question #1

The group of nations, which included Germany, Italy and Japan that opposed the Allies in World War II were known as Central Powers Axis Powers Right Powers Left Powers Question #2

Which of the following allowed Britain, France, and their allies to obtain U.S. weapons without having to pay cash up front? The Lend Lease Act The Nuremberg Laws The Neutrality Act of 1939 The Neutrality Acts passed prior to 1939 Question #3

One of Hitler’s greatest concerns was that the United States might enter the war on the side of the Allied powers, which were Great Britain, France, the Soviet Union, and others. In order to prevent this, Germany and Italy formed the Axis Powers, along with this nation: China Austria Vietnam Japan Question #4

As Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, and the Japanese showed aggression around the globe, many Americans felt that the United States should adopt a policy of isolationism. This policy said that: The United States should use military power and diplomacy to directly intervene in world affairs The United States should use its membership in the League of Nations to help stop aggressive nations The United States should remove itself from affairs that didn’t directly threaten it The United States should support Germany against communist Russia Question #5
