What is the class all about? The JFS Studio In Art Course is an high school level course offered to JFS’s “elite art students”.

So what exactly do you do in there? This class will provide you with a large range of art experiences- drawing, painting, sculpting, etc. - that will help you become a better, more knowledgeable artist!

In addition to creating inventive artwork, you will learn about artists and art through different cultures and time periods!

7th Grade students who LOVE learning AND making art! Who is eligible? 7th Grade students who LOVE learning AND making art! You also have to be confident and comfortable with your ability…

What’s in it for me? Not only will you have an AMAZING collection of beautiful artwork, you will earn one full high school credit in middle school!

After I take “Studio”, what’s next? Students who enroll will enroll in Drawing during the freshman year and progressing through a art sequence in high school. Just think…your Senior year…independent study!

How to “Apply” Pick up a “Studio In Art Application Packet” from your Art Teacher. Complete Art Tasks – read instructions carefully Submit completed Application packet to any middle school art teacher before end of semester (first semester students), end of February (second semester students)

Twenty openings have been established for this accelerated section of 8th Grade Studio in Art. Students are chosen by Mr. Rodrigues, Ms. Strattan and Mr. Bohner, based on their artistic aptitude and level of ability. JFS Art teachers will select these students based on an ‘application’. Apply, like its your job, kids!

Tips: Plan. Consider doing a ‘rough draft’ Be Creative. Your artwork should create a unique illustration of the task you're being asked to do. There is no right answer. Follow instructions. Read them carefully. Add Flair. Consider adding value (shading) and consider background as a part of your idea. Use tools. Try using art tools or references. Have fun. Show us you enjoyed drawing for us!
