QUIZ TOMORROW! Where do we go to next? INFLUENCES ON YOUR HEALTH

INFLUENCES ON OUR HEALTH WHAT YOU CONTROL AND WHAT YOU DON’T CONTROL HEREDITY ENVIRONMENT Physical, Social & Cultural BEHAVIOR INFLUENCES ON OUR HEALTH

INFLUENCES ON YOUR HEALTH - Heredity We have no control over our heredity. What is handed down to us we are stuck with for the rest of our lives. INFLUENCES ON YOUR HEALTH - Heredity NO CONTROL CONTROL

INFLUENCES ON YOUR HEALTH - Environment ENVIRONMENT – PHYSICAL, SOCIAL, CULTURAL Your physical environment can affect all areas of your health. The accessibility of parks, exercise facilities have an impact on your health as well as areas of high crime rate. These examples are directly related to an individual’s mental, physical and social well-being. Some other aspects to consider are air quality, condition of where you live, and health care accessibility ENVIRONMENT – PHYSICAL, SOCIAL, CULTURAL Social environment includes your family and other people with whom you come into contact on a daily basis. A person who is surrounded by individuals who show support, love, strength, and encouragement may have a positive self-image. Good social support will help an individual rise above adverse physical conditions. The reverse effect will occur for someone that has an unhealthy social support. At your age, your peers have a heavy influence on your health. What you choose to do based on peer pressure is up to you. ENVIRONMENT – PHYSICAL, SOCIAL, CULTURAL Cultural environment can be an ethnic group, a community, a nation, or an entire section of the globe. The language, the foods we eat, the traditions, and religions we practice are all cultural environment. CONTROL NO CONTROL

INFLUENCES ON YOUR HEALTH - Behavior Behavior is the only influence on our health that we have total control over. The way you choose to act within your environment is up to you. The way you eat, exercise, decisions you make, and the way you act are all behavior. The behaviors you choose to participate in all have a direct impact on your health. NO CONTROL CONTROL
