“The past and present here unite beneath time's flowing tide…”Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Gentoo Penguins (Pygoscelis papua) Nest-Building on the Antarctic Peninsula. Gentoos breed in sub-Antarctic islands and on the Antarctic Peninsula in large and small colonies. Their nests are built on rocky, uninhabited shores, using whatever supplies are available—in this case rocks. In September or October, Gentoos generally lay two eggs, but often due to predators or lack of food only the stronger of the two survives the first three months.
