The arrival of our first Hummer. Hummer Project. The vehicle is a 1986 model USN 94-63699, code 0348-I which came from Spain with help from Atlantic Command Logistics at minimal cost. The arrival of our first Hummer.

The first look was not inspirational, Hummer Project. We decided since funds were not available to buy a rescue unit that we needed, we would build our own out of this old Hummer, ourselves. Fire fighters took and designed what was needed and went to work. The first look was not inspirational,

Hummer Project. From two point’s of view! Installed heavier springs, axles, raised the vehicle four inches, installed heavier axles, bigger rims and 44” tires. Built a complete enclosure front and back. Installed a bigger turbo charged diesel engine. From two point’s of view! Just in the beginning & somewhere in the middle of the project.

Hummer Project. Aluminum framing throughout for light weight and sufficient strength to carry an "Easycaf" fire fighting foam system with two rescue personnel and extrication tools. Our main craftsmanship team thinking of how shall we solve the next problem. They didn’t have any drawings to go by.

Hummer Project. Attaching new to old parts is a challenge. But on those pictures you can see they solved all the problems during the rehabilitation.

Our friends in the Air Force were kind enough to let us use their paint booth and we are fortunate to have a professional spray painter on our r staff in the department Close Encounter of the Third Kind??? Hummer Project. Finally the New all terrain rescue Hummer is completed for service. A very significant improvement in the rescue capabilities of Fire and emergency services at Naval Air Station, Keflavík. This is the final judging from the Icelandic jury, I’m looking good, no I’m looking fantastic!!!
