The Sasaki family lived one mile from where the bomb detonated Sadako (aged 2)
Fastest in her school Oct’ 1954 Sadako (aged 12)
Sadako diagnosed with leukemia Nov’ 1954
Sadako goes to Hospital and is given a year to live Dec’ 1954
“if you fold a thousand cranes, you’ll be granted one wish” old Japanese legend
Every day, Sadako kept up her spirits by carefully folding paper cranes She believed that if She folded one thousand she would get better again
When she got to one thousand, she kept going…
But it wasn’t to be. Sadako died on the morning of October 25th 1955.
After Sadako’s death, her classmates created a monument to mourn all the children who died in the atomic bombing.
This is our cry. This is our prayer. For building peace in this world.
