Suffixes

A suffix is a word part that is added to the end of a base word. A suffix changes the meaning of the word and how it is used in a sentence.

The suffix ment is a noun – making suffix. Suffixes:ment The suffix ment is a noun – making suffix. Often, a verb can be changed into a noun by adding the suffix ment.

Achievement Meaning: Something that is done successfully , especially through hard work. Ex: She felt that the book was her greatest achievement.

Acknowledgment Meaning: The act of acknowledging. Ex: I have received no acknowledgment for all work the work I did.

Alignment Meaning: Arrangement in a straight line or parallel to something else. Ex: The tiles had slipped out of alignment.

Indictment Meaning: A written paper that officially accuses somebody of a crime. Ex: I have an Indictment of for conspiracy.

Inducement Meaning: Something that is offered to somebody to make him/her do something. Ex: Companies were prepared to build only in return for massive inducements.

Environment Meaning: The conditions in which you live, work, etc. Ex: A bad home environment can affect a child progress at school.

Ornament Meaning: An object that you have because it is attractive, not because it is useful. Ex: Ornament are used to decorate rooms, etc.

Sentiment Meaning: An attitude or opinion that is often caused or influenced by emotion. Ex: His comments expressed my sentiment exactly.

Temperament Meaning: A person character, especially as it affects the way he/she behaves and feels. Ex: She had an artist temperament.

Predicament Meaning: A difficult situation. Ex: Today I was predicament.
