Content Areas Addressed English Language Arts 3 – 8, E I, E II, E III Spanish 3-5 Math 3 – 8, Alg, Geom, Alg II, Pre-Calc Aligned to the NEW math TEKS for 2006-2007 Social Studies 3 – 8, WH, WG, US Science 3 – 8, IPC, CH, Bio, Phy 5th Grade Spanish

Item Count Currently, there are approximately 30,000 items in the bank Developing items for the 2007-08 Of the 2000+ items to be added, many will be “TAKS Clones”

Item Types Multiple Choice Short Answer Open Response Performance Tasks Multiple Choice – all have 4 answer choices; A-D, no E-H (cost prohibitive) Short Answer in WebCCAT means a 2-3 word response, not a TAKS short answer format for LA. Math could be gridable response Open Response – all have rubrics attached for grading and suggested responses Performance Tasks – teacher has to watch the students do individually or takes more than one class period to complete (i.e., research tasks, labs in science, etc)

Levels of Thinking and Difficulty Every item in WebCCAT is assigned a Level of Thinking and a Level of Difficulty

Level of Difficulty How hard is the item for the average student in that grade/content area In examples below, each level is more difficult, even though each represents the same cognitive level Easy – Recite the alphabet Med – Recite the alphabet backwards Hard – Recite every third letter of the alphabet from “Z” back to “A” Go into WebCCAT after this slide.

On the Home Page Reference Materials: Help Systems Requirements Check TEKS/TAKS Correlation Guides ELA Stimulus List**** WebCCAT Gold Ordering Information Help Users Guides for all levels Systems Requirements Check Always run before logging in Resolve all issues: UNBLOCK POPUPS Acrobat Reader Version

You must do a system check to insure that WebCCAT will work properly.

Make sure that pop-up blocker is disabled.

Special Notes Always use the navigation buttons at the bottom of the WebCCAT screen Or the navigation buttons in the gray tool bar along the top Using the browser back button may result in an error – avoid using Maximize your screen to avoid excessive scrolling

Select Items The subject/grade identified in the Test Setup will already be selected The best results are obtained when searching by TEKS/TAKS EXCEPTION: ELA needs to search by stimulus rather than TEKS/TAKS Instead of TEKS/TAKS, you may search by: Stimulus, Item Type, Level of Thinking/Difficulty or Keyword Can select multiple TEKS by either: holding Shift key for consecutive ones, holding the Control key for random selection.

A Stimulus (or passage) in WebCCAT is anything that needs to print the full width of the page Examples: Reading and writing passages Maps, graphs, charts Anything that is too small when it appears in one column Special Instructions for ELA teachers – ELA Stimulus Reference List – located under “Reference Materials” from Main Page (right hand side of page). Stimulus (passage) list by grade level. List gives you the WebCCAT file name, denotes passages as single, paired, or a triplet, and lists the SE’s tied to the passage. One’s that are tested are highlighted. Caution – long document!!! Do not want to print in its entirety.

Tab 3 - Item Search Result You can preview the items rendered in your search. (Choose either “Select” from the Preview Screen or check the box for the items you wish to include on your test). Once you’ve selected your items, click the “Add Items to Test” button. You may also click the “Search Again” button to add items from another search. Click the “Continue” button.

Tab 4 - Sequence and Settings Use this interface to reorder the items on the test. Click on “Clear Order” then renumber the items. Be sure to click “Save” so the items will appear in the new order. Click on the “Preview” link to review the item again. Click on “PDF Preview” to preview and/or print a copy of your test. Click the “Save and Close” button.

Once you’ve clicked on “Save and Close”, your test will now be available within the Manage Assessments feature of the application. Manage Assessments allows you to preview, edit, and save a copy of your test under a new name. You can come back to the assessments you’ve created at any time, from anywhere.

Manage Assessments Publish – allows you to make the test available to other users Protect – ensure no changes are made to a published test; no one would be able to make a personal copy Copy to – allows you to select users to copy your test to
