DAY 1 5. Catholic Identity Being a teacher in a Catholic School

Catholic schools should give first priority to Catholic students from Catholic families. agree disagree

Most teachers at my school don’t really put that much emphasis on Religion lessons. agree disagree

Only committed Catholics (those who attend mass regularly) should be allowed to teach religious education. agree disagree

We need to introduce a NAPLAN style Religion test to see what kids are really learning in Religious Education. agree disagree

The Challenge Learning how to be a teacher in a wider culture that doesn't know the difference between a vocation and a job.

A Job An assignment to do work that can be quantified and evaluated. Teaching is a job that I get paid for, a job that is assigned to me by a principal, a job that I am expected to do to the satisfaction of my employer.

A Vocation vocatio = a call, a summons A call to leadership and service in the Church We are not defined by what we do.
