Co-production or participation? Co-production is about engagement and participation: rebalancing power valuing and respecting the strengths of people
Key drivers for more participation Increasing engagement and participation is: the right thing to do – putting more power into people’s own hands the only way to reconcile rising demand, increasing expectations and diminishing resources a legal requirement
Key benefits of participation drawing on a wider range of knowledge, experience and perspectives improving public service design and delivery building trust in public institutions developing citizens’ skills, confidence and ambition, and enabling more active citizens and communities
Christie Commission: public sector reform must aim to empower individuals and communities
Changing the Narrative: real opportunities to redefine the relationship between citizen and state
Community Empowerment Act: empower community bodies through the ownership or control of land and buildings, and by strengthening their voices in decisions about public services
